Hi, I'm PREM KIRAN PG

I’m Prem Kiran, a passionate learner, mentor, and DevOps professional with a Master’s degree in Computer Science Engineering. My journey began while I was still in college, driven by a love for both learning and teaching. In 2010, I founded W2S AcademY, where I spent over 6 years (while pursuing my Bachelor’s and Master’s) training school students in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Through W2S Academy, I not only shared knowledge but also helped shape futures — many of my students went on to become successful engineers and medical professionals. This early experience of teaching while learning myself built the foundation of my passion for mentorship and personal growth.

In 2015, I took my first step into the professional world as an engineer. Starting as a support engineer, I soon discovered my deeper interest in software automation and cloud technologies. By 2017, I transitioned fully into the DevOps and AWS Cloud ecosystem, where I began building scalable, automated solutions and exploring modern engineering practices.

Since then, my journey has been about leading teams, driving automation, and architecting secure and resilient DevOps ecosystems across diverse industries. Alongside my career, I continue to mentor both students and professionals, helping them start and grow their careers as Cloud Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Platform Engineers, and Site Reliability Engineers in leading MNCs.

For me, technology and teaching are deeply connected – one fuels innovation, and the other ensures that knowledge grows and multiplies. My purpose has always been not just to build systems, but also to build people who can shape the future.

Built for All Environments

Designed and operated workloads on AWS, Azure, and GCP for app teams. Hands-on with EKS (incl. Fargate profiles), EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, Azure APIM, and private endpoints. Built multi-region setups like prod in West Europe / DR in North Europe, and integrated clusters with org identity providers.

Security, Identity & Delivery Enablement

Implemented secure delivery with IAM roles, Keycloak/OIDC, Vault, SOPS-encrypted secrets, TLS and user-assigned identities. Focused on making clusters secure but still developer-friendly. Also run training for freshers and junior DevOps on Linux, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, and GitLab CI so teams can actually use the platforms we build.

Automation & CI/CD

Built end-to-end pipelines in GitLab CI, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps for microservices: install deps → test → build → security/dependency check → Docker build/push → environment-wise deploy. Use Terraform (modular), Ansible, and shell to provision VPC, EKS, OpenSearch, Vault, and app infra across dev / QA / UAT / prod. Comfortable enforcing branching and release rules (release-* only to UAT, protected main, image tagging strategy).

Kubernetes, Containers & Observability

Containerized and ran 20+ services on Kubernetes (EKS, K3s) using Helm and sometimes GitOps (ArgoCD / FluxCD). Worked on real cluster problems: ingress via Traefik/App Gateway, image tag mismatch across envs, scaling min/max replicas, and logging from Fargate namespaces. Set up Prometheus, Grafana, kube-state-metrics, Fluent Bit to OpenSearch, and even Kubecost for pod/namespace cost insight.

GitLab Migration

Seamlessly migrated self-managed GitLab CE from Amazon Linux → Ubuntu 24.04 with zero downtime. Ensured continuity of 21+ microservices pipelines during the migration.

Pipeline Acceleration

Cut Docker deployment time from 140 → 20 mins using auto re-tagging and ECR push scripts. Accelerated release cycles and improved developer productivity significantly.

Environment Cost Optimization

Scripted dynamic scaling to auto-reduce replicas in DEV/UAT, cutting cloud spend. Achieved savings without decommissioning environments or breaking auth flows.

DR Strategy & Backup Automation

Automated daily GitLab backups to S3 securing critical files (gitlab.rb, gitlab-secrets.json). Strengthened DR strategy with encrypted storage and quick restore capability.

Observability & Governance at Scale

Built complete observability frameworks with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch ISM, and Kubecost, combining real-time monitoring + cost governance dashboards.

ZAP DAST Integration

DAST with OWASP ZAP is integrated into the deployment pipeline to scan the running application for security vulnerabilities like XSS or SQL injection.
